Ramin Fatehi was a citizen of Sanandaj who was arrested on October 13th, 2022, during nationwide protests in Iran in response to the murder of Mahsa Amini. He died a few days after his arrest due to extreme torture in the Sanandaj Intelligence Detention Center.
In an interview with Kurdpa, Ramin Fatehi’s brother, Chiako Fatehi, confirmed the news of his brother’s death in the detention center and said: “On Friday, October 13th, 2022 they announced to my family that Ramin had committed suicide in the detention center.” However, Chiako Fatehi denied the claim made by the security forces about his brother’s suicide and told Kurdpa that he had learned from reliable sources that Ramin Fatehi had died as a result of severe torture and that the security forces had buried his brother’s body in Behesht Mohammadi in Sanandaj without informing the family. Kurdpa also reported, citing Chiako Fatehi, that security forces confiscated the cellphones of his family members and asked them to refrain from giving interviews to the media in this regard.
After Ramin's arrest, his sister Rada Fatehi and his other brother Wriya Fatehi were also arrested. On October 22nd, 2022, Ramtin Fatehi, Ramin Fatehi’s son, held up photos of Ramin Fatehi, Radha Fatehi, and Wriya Fatehi in an interview with Iran International TV during an Iranian protest rally in Berlin, Germany, demanding the release of his father, aunt, and uncle. He participated in the interview without knowing that his father had been killed in the Sanandaj Intelligence Detention Center hours before the interview.
